BACooN Spotlight: Waukee Post Party at Mickeys Irish Pub

Mickey’s Irish Pub in Waukee is the official Finish Line Post Party for Bacoon 5!

Your last bacon stop on your Passpork, will be featuring Amy’s Double Layer Caramel BACON Rice Krispie Bars!  We will be serving up Tacos, Nachos and BACON Queso Burgers on our food Stand.

We will be serving up Cold Beer Tallboys and Smirnoff Vodka Cocktails!! Bags and games will be around for fun. We are featuring two live bands: 3-7pm Plastic Apartment (Outside Stage), 8-Midnight Bad Friends (Inside Stage)!

We have plenty of parking and Mickey’s is within walking or biking distance to Centennial Park in Waukee. On the day of the event we will be opening at 7am in case you need a quick $3 Smirnoff Bloody Mary to get your day started off on the right!

BACooN RIDE Spotlight: Panora

PJ’S Drive-In is located in Panora right off the Raccoon River Valley Trail  They will be serving Iowa BACON Nachos for the PassPORK lunch stop.

House BBQ Kettle Chips, smoked pork, beer cheese, corn salsa and BACON!! The live music will start at 10am with 4 Shades of Gray. Tori’s Angels Foundation will have a water and drink station. A huge beer tent with an Adult Lemonade stand and tall boys! PJ’S yearly Bourbon Bacon Bar will be mixing custom bourbon blend drinks and cocktails.  Chill out and cool off in the restaurant with malts and shakes including a Bacon Praline Sundae.

BACooN RIDE 5 Registration is Now Open!

Registration for the BACooN RIDE 5 is now open!  The event is presented by RAGBRAI, the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival and the Iowa Bicycle Coalition and will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018!  Not only will the BACooN RIDE 5 be great fun, but 100% of the proceeds benefits the Iowa Bicycle Coalition, RAGBRAI’s Dream Team and other great Iowa charities!

The BACooN RIDE 5 registration is $50 (before May 1st) includes:

  • Numerous BACON stops featuring BACON snacks and samples throughout the day (You will receive approximately 9 BACON items at these BACON stops throughout the ride!)
  • BACON-themed lunch
  • A commemorative PassPORK (punch card for your BACON treats!)
  • Awesome drink specials at numerous BACON party stops (including BACON-themed drinks)
  • Custom BACooN RIDE 5 Moisture-wicking Performance T-shirt
  • Commemorative BACooN RIDE 5 slap coozie
  • Ride support/mechanics

RAGBRAI Dream Team Mentors Assist with Packet Pick-Up

The RAGBRAI Dream Team mentors will be at BACooN RIDE 4 to help with Packet Pick-up for the fourth year!

You will need to bring your printed receipted or be prepared to show receipt on your mobile device.

The BACooN RIDE will make a contribution to the Dream Team for their assistance.  Be sure to say hello to these fine mentors and ask about the program.  The Dream Team youth will be on training rides.

Last year. the BACooN RIDE donated over $20,000 to local charities including RAGBRAI’s Dream Team and Boy Scouts.  Thank you for registering so we can continue to support the charities that assist with this great event.

Boy Scouts Troop 182 Return to Assist at Crossings for BACooN RIDE

The Boy Scouts from Troop 182 in Ankeny and adult leaders will be at BACooN RIDE 4 to help riders get through the trail crossing safer.  They will warn cyclists of some potential hazards, such as oncoming vehicles or gravel, but will not yell “CLEAR”.  Cyclists need to make their own decision that is it safe to cross the intersections.  There are approximately 50 crossings on the Raccoon River Valley Trail.

Some of the scouts will be selling cold water for $1 and gatorade for $2 at their crossing with funds being used to help pay for their summer camp.

The BACooN RIDE will also make a contribution to the Boy Scouts for their assistance.  Be sure to say hello to these fine young men.

For your last bacon stop on your PassPORK, Mickey’s will be featuring Amy’s Pumpkin Caramel BACON Bars!  They will also be serving up Tacos, Nachos and BACON Queso Burgers along with Cold Beer and Barcardi, Hornitos & Titos drink specials!  Bags and games will be around for fun.

Mickey’s will be featuring three live bands this year:

2-6pm Blake Lubinos (Inside)
5-9pm Jimmy the Weasel (Outside)
8-Midnight Brother Trucker (Inside)!

BACooN RIDE Spotlight: Minburn

The Nineteen14 in Minburn will be teaming up with The Des Moines Bacon Company and will be open at 7am.  They will have live music from Broken Keys 8:30-11:30am, a HUGE Bloody Mary/Bloody Maria/Bloody Bourbon bar.   The Des Moines Bacon Company will be serving Breakfast Bacon Dyn-O-Mite and Double Smoked Bacon and Egg Burritos.
